I forgot the post, well I didn't even remember later on not until after the pm church toilet meeting. Ged didn't show at 11am at Plantation cafe but vicar Jane and reader Helen from our sister church were having a similar meeting so joined them , we phoned Ged who came along but Roger was in London. We sketched out where we were up to and I had amended another friends room booking for the pilgrimage accommodation in September. After the meeting I got more jobs done, mowed lawn, tidied edges, weeded, did some emails and somewhere in the day got 3 DVDs edited. Later I cleaned off the dead insects from the front of my little white IQ car and then cleaned all the downstairs windowsills outside and some of the coving that I could reach. Had two pints of beer, a couple of biscuits, two slices of toast and one ice cream, salad tomorrow perhaps! I've the clips for the three truck films to get sorted on Youtube. When Mandy is back and the pressure is off I'll start on the DVD covers. Photos from Monmouth yesterday
Another hot day perhaps as hot here as any with added humidity, tomorrow looks even more clammy feeling then the big cool down, at 16 it's going to feel freezing cold but hopefully we get another bout of heat in Cyprus at the beginning of July. What a hectic day it's been yet again but Mandy should be pulling up on the drive any time now. I've trimmed the hedge which took longer than expected, cut through the clothes line which I had to rehang, then I had already got the DVD orders done but as our regular postman is off on holiday we got the post extra extra early so I got everything ready to taken out and drop off on my way back from the 11am meeting. Photos from Monmouth yesterday some shots in the garden this morning The nearly completed toilet at St Oswalds and removing the temporary footpath diversion signs Usually a heatwave dominates all our British news coverage, a sign of the times I suppose as we can wallow in hand wringing and bitterness and not mention the heat. Half the country loves it and half hates it, reminds me of Brexit only we get the sun for free. I took a couple of bananas out with me this morning for lunch although breakfast was more like it. I've had three icecreams and three bottles of drinks as well as water, coming back home from Bristol the car temp showed 35 degrees near Gloucester, needless to say it started to edge down as I reached Cheshire. It was a very successful filming day starting at my usual location at the roundabout at Ross on Wye and then moving up to Monmouth. It was very well timed as the carriageway was slowed down by grass cutting, all the usual carriageway closures, elf and safety signs , millions of pounds of overkill really but it slowed down my subjects which included the Stobart mobile training centre. After this I went down to Avonmouth docks which turned up trumps yet again with a great selection so we might as well start our slide show there. I got spotted by a truck driver who recognised me as the chap from P{MP, the fame has spread from buses to lorries it seems. The Youtube advertising is still rocketing up which means that we don't have to relay on the ever diminishing returns of bus or truck events. It's Kelsall this next weekend, we are setting up on Friday afternoon, mainly so I can get shots of the lorries coming in. It is one of the largest lorry events after Gaydon although slightly camouflaged as a steam event but take no heed it is a huge lorry show with ERF and Foden and now other clubs having their own sections of the showgrounds. Mandy gets home from Ireland tomorrow evening, every window in the house is open, I'll just load some shots and get the film downloaded to the computer. Ready with the slide show here we go.. I was at Astle Park steam rally the time it last set an all time high for temperature in Cheshire, pity the poor devils on the steamers that day, in the great British tradition of looking after each other the price of a bottle of water soared during the day like the temperature. It was already hot when I woke in the night as something didn't seem right, the electric had gone off and the clock had stopped so I didn't even know the time but I wandered down to the garage and reset and it all came back on other than all the things which need resetting. It was 5.30 am, I went back to sleep until 7.30 then started on with my jobs. I'm now on editing the last of the DVDs from my trip to Hampshire and Dorset and will soon be starting getting the covers done. It was quite busy at church this morning even though I was there early, there was a baptism as well. The toilet really does look as if it could be ready for the hand over on Tuesday afternoon, the electrician was even working today. A lot of ground restoration has taken place , a last few tiles to go on the floor and touch up painting and commissioning of the auto septic tank which returns clean water to the stream. Our neighbour there is happier about the view from their cottage and is even going to take cuttings from their garden to plant along the plain wall. I've got a few DVD orders to get ready, I'm off truck filming but will try to get back to post stuff off before 5pm, it's Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Bristol circuit. Magazine adverts all sent off, Mandy should be meeting her cousin from New Zealand in Cork tomorrow . To cool off I managed to stay awake through an old film on talking pictures channel, dinner is nearly ready, I did a bit of shopping after church, got fresh flowers around the house ready for Mandy coming home Tuesday. Had a Redwing in the garden on the fat feeder, a first for our little patch. There will be another pile of clips to go on Youtube, talking of which the ordinary channel is doing really well, the adverts must be better targeted but don't let up clicking on adverts which appeal, it's your future visits invested in the advertising revenue returns. Generally it's been a quiet week for DVD, the heat in the UK I think to blame but I'm not knocking it! Photos from Southampton yesterday. It seems a shame that tradegy strikes again this eek with the appalling fire in London but again exposes the Tory disdain for any but the rich and powerful in our country, another notch in the progress which will see Jez get to No10, for the uninitiated much of his income is given away to various charities - I believe the Yanks are having a hard time recognising they might have to deal with what looks to them like Chavez or Castro only without the desire for bloodshed. At one meeting where Chez was grilled over his anti nuclear stance a lady stood up at the end and demanded why so many of the audience wanted to see our planet blown to pieces! What a scorcher, it will be so dull when that super clear blue sky eventually vanishes but I hope a get a chance to get a little bit more filming in before then. I've my eye on the truck run from Ross on Wye, Monmouth and Bristol that I've done several times now, it really suits a good summer day. I'm pretty tired out now and ready for bed. I'm on my own as church warden tomorrow but its not expected to be a busy day, someone said the Cheshire show is on but I haven't passed in that direction, all I ever see is the road closure signs for road works. We couldn't believe the road past St Oswalds was going to be closed, at last the potholes all along a previous utility excavation would be sorted, well no actually it was the other side of the Peover Eye in Cheshire East, we are Cheshire West - they got a nice top dressing to complete the roadworks their side which weren't half as bad as ours. A quick slide show should keep you all happy for the minute, lets have yesterday and today as I can't remember where I was up to going back to Kent and Sussex. All the DVDs from that section of the week are done but not covers. Yesterday was Isle of Wight and the new bus station at The Hard in Portsmouth. Quite a lot of unusual old cars about on the island which has the worlds last commercial hovercraft service and is one of two isles that have ex LT underground trains the other being Alderney. The weather has improved as the day has gone on and it looks set to hit nearly thirty tomorrow. I was up before four am and that little extra time made a difference and I had a good run down to I Portsmouth to edit. Sorry weebky had a woobly there, I was saying, the parking at the hard is as horrific as Southwest for the hovercraft. That plus the fact that it is the dearest stretch of water pro rata in the world to traverse. I landed at rude quite early on and filmed services and returning s book blue buses near the bus museum which is the old bus depot. Then I caught abuse to Newport filming from the top deck, very sunny at Newport, nothingClick to see at the depot but bus station was very hectic, still the pits Wallace's go, had lunch at marks and then returned direct to ryde and another top deck film. Got a shot of the tram. On the list before I boarded for the return to Portsmouth. The new bus station has just opened and filmed there over rush hour which means I've really done ports moth do will do Fareham I. The morning then Southampton and if time is on my side I. To Bournemouth if traffic allows it can be aligned on that route. Home Saturday night.
Yes a busy week and it isn't over yet. I've got my hotel booked in Portsmouth, fingers crossed as most stays there have been a nightmare but it looks a very comfy spot. I did a lot of work in the garden this afternoon and I've got all the DVDs this week so far burnt to disc masters. No covers but that i can catch up with, I need to get the magazine adverts done this week but will get as much up to the present as i can with visits first. I also popped round to the garden centre after calling at St Oswalds and inspected progress on the toilet, it wouldn't be fair to say there was none but still a lot to do if they are to be finished tomorrow, I think they'll be working to the clock until we meet next Tuesday for handover. I'm also hoping to have a meet with Roger and Ged about the pilgrimage walk in September which has grown arms and legs and now includes a vintage car rally and cycle ride. I'm up at 4.45 tomorrow morning and straight down to Portsmouth park up and head to Ryde on the catamaran.I did manage to skype Max and Tina last night, trying to get it tied together for Mandy to see Narelle from New Zealand who should have landed at Cork sometime today. Not bad for someone with Downs, she is addressing a meeting there. I got all the orders cleared first thing today, I was up early but it's early to bed tonight as well. Here are some more shots these from Hastings and then Canterbury. I'm nearly ready to go live with the subscription Youtube channel, no adverts full length films. Here is another blog with photos, I didn't get much sleep as it was a bit warm and I'd been used to getting up early but made it through to 5.30 am, its an early start again tomorrow at 3.45am down to Isle of Wight. I'll blog this evening but meanwhile here are some shots from Eastbourne yesterday lunch time. Greeting, I'm back in Lower Peover for one night then back on the road heading down to the Isle of Wight. The weather has been superb, I've not seen a forecast for Friday/Saturday and nor have I booked a hotel but I need to get the film and DVD orders shifted tomorrow and tidy the garden. I made a brew when I came indoors then opened the emails,. the tea was nearly cold when I got back to it. I found a rrally nice gastro pub with superb internet connection last night and when I got back their ale had a wonderful effect on sending me to sleep and I didn't hear the traffic at all. The temperature started to soar this afternoon, 28 in Maidstone then 29 around the M25 and out as far as High Wycombe. I didn't leave Maidstone until 3.45 which meant I got stuck in the afternoon rush hour but other than that is wasn't a bad run up. I've fed the birds, downloaded the DVD orders and responded to most of the emails. Today I was down at the bus station by about 7.45, it was really hectic with school services and the morning rush hour. The light was spot on and no hassles, met a couple of other bus enthusiasts out for an early trawl. What a difference a year makes yet there still seemed to be quite a good variety. Everywhere I went today had buses new to me so it wasn't at all a wasted trip and with clear blue skies all the time it was spot on. I got wrapped up at Canterbury very quickly and made my way to Chatham, it wasn't hectic but enough new buses and variety to keep me amused and I didn't take that long to get all the film I needed and then off once more this time to Maidstone. It was like watching paint dry at times, I really had a job getting the footage, it just isn't very busy there unlike all the other destinations so far this week but you can only get what there is. A couple of fairly pissed up dossers gave me a bit of chew by the memorial, I can't say that Maidstone does much for me, Chatham might be rough around the edges but at least it usually friendly. It is surprising how much poverty there is even in the supposed affluent south east. I know you are really just waiting for some pictures and i want another drink and a spot of telly before bed so here we go at the start yesterday in Brighton. Sorry the whole blog is disjointed Upp at five forty five this morning but I'd gone to bed early and had already had a good sleep. I had a reasonable drive down from Cheshire to Brighton and got parked at park and ride on way into Brighton but morning rush and zero bus lanes so it took a while. I was ready for filming by eight thirty am and there was plenty of new stuff for me to point the camera at plus lots a of advert buses or promo I should say.. I couldn't I find the nice cafe at the theatre it seemed a to have vanished so scrapped thoughts of a coffee stop and hopped on the twenty seven back to park and ride but we got caught in an accident and traffic was all turning back except the bus. The go ahead driver was very helpful and let me out with precise instructions on a a short cut which would get me back a to the car which took about ten minutes and was all downhill. The other accolade goes to the tsb bank staff near old steine which offered to bring me out a coffee while I was filming outside, good old friendly Sussex matches anything up north although there are a few rum sights in brighton. Plus the usual amount of dossersws as Britain continues to go down the pan under dear leader may blossom slopbuckets upon her. Pity ashe isn't a Muslim she could be a suicide bomber on a deserted island. It's so random trying to write on weebky ,sorry it comes out a bit mixed, I would be even worse with one of those phone internet Jobs, it's the thing I'd unintentional mobile phones load of town if you ask me and makes bring a pedestrian a hazard.. tomorrow I'm hopping into Canterbury early to nab myself a parking place. After that on to Chatham and finish at Maidstone. Then back to Cheshire get dvd orders cleared and then a tidy up in the garden. I bet the weather isn't as good as Kent, smashing living the road to Hythe. Having white chocolate creme brulé with ice creams on the side and it's a diet day butmandy said I need to eat something. Shepard neame pub really interesting ale quite citric. Friday I've an early start down to Ilse of Wight first then stay somewhere near ready to do Portsmouth and may be Southampton on Saturday back up north to cover church on Sunday which might be quiet as its Cheshire show this week I'm lead to believe. Remember he's is standing by ready to pick up the reigns when dear leader may blossom throws in the Howell who are the buggers that voted Tory like voting for toothache. Sipping with the devil to cuddle up with the cup, Brexit forget it Europe for ever.
Greetings on this rather gloomy summer evening in Cheshire which is partly why I'm heading south to catch up with buses in Kent and Sussex with a dose of sun thrown it. It was freezing here this morning although by this afternoon it had warmed up enough to mow the lawn have a trim around and feed the plants and tie up a few knocked over in the stormy weather of the past two weeks. The weather in the S East looks set to be warm all week although I have tweaked things to match better with the sun so I'm starting in Sussex then spending the night in Kent ready to cover Canterbury bus station on Wednesday morning. I'll be back at home Wed night and clear any DVD orders then down south again on Friday to cover the IOW and overnight somewhere not yet booked before coming back up on Saturday. We were up at 5am this morning, I sorted out Mandy's green card insurance and her renewal as this had slipped through the net. I did a lot of photo filing this morning after getting the orders away, there were two trips to the post today. Then after lunch it was the site meeting re St Oswald's toilet, things are stumbling towards a finish, there should be progress before the weekend and hopefully little more to get it up and running. I've got another couple of films loaded on our new Youtube subscription channel which is nearly ready to go live about 5 more DVDs to load before I press the button, it's aimed mainly at people in diverse countries who are used to seeing our clips and who want access to the full programmes. Some more photos from Gaydon, I'll try and blog from Canterbury but not sure how the internet will be. |
