My hospital scan tomorrow has been cancelled at last minute due to lack of staff so Mandy and I are using the last hot day to go to York and Scarborough tomorrow.
I am still being denied access to my Thunderbird emails by Google which is causing me some big head aches. I cannot understand anything about the GMail site its like a mirror maze, why did anyone ever let Outlook Express go, mind you I think a modern day Windows XP would find billions of old people waiting to use it. I did the S West truck triple today, Ross on Wye, Monmouth and then Avonmouth. Here are some shots along the way. My hospital scan tomorrow has been cancelled at last minute due to lack of staff so Mandy and I are using the last hot day to go to York and Scarborough tomorrow. Heavy night on wine in next doors super new garden patio, we had had very little to eat in the day, we were well oiled and Mandy did the never again speech! The front door paint job is complete, started 7am, second coat midday then a touch up in the evening after masking tape was removed. Looks very good. I've decided to get another of the poorly engineered 400' reel film scanners off Amazon but also went for the three year insurance deal which will be useful when it breaks down as they always do. Still haven't had anything back from Germany on the big pro job which is probably squillions of pounds, perhaps they were caught in the floods. The new North East bus films now have clips on Youtube which is now working fine. I'll start editing on the South Lincs truck films, the external storage drive is now full so had to order another of them. Sad that the Lincolnshire transport museum is giving up on their running days some memorable times, also sorry to hear that Yardley Wood Model Club is giving up attending rallies. I must admit that this year our events will be restricted but we shall be supporting a few as per our what's happening page! Here are some more stills from the North East trip, hoping to do my triple bill truck film Monday, Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Avonmouth. A long trip there and back but enjoyable none the less and the weather was spot on, a clear blue sunny sky with not a hint of a cloud, lots of lorries and I managed to get finished with three hours of film by dinner time. The roads were by then clogged with caravans and the wagons vanished. Road works accounted for an extra hour on the journey home as the temperature soared in the East Midlands touching 29 degC. Any here are some shots from today, I'll give you more buses from North East tomorrow. I've got the house front door all masked ready to pain, three cots required, 7am, midday and tea time. I think it was just hard slog, blind faith and hope that got me back into my Youtube account. I still cannot link my emails to Gmail. Sickening that Google has given me so much grief this week with hardly any time to consider the problems with the cine scanner. We went to the pub for our Thursday tipple, got back and electrics had tripped out. I really think we are jinxed this week. I'm over in South Lincolnshire tomorrow filming lorries. Then Saturday painting the exterior of the front door, three coats at 4 hour intervals, that should be fun. Hoping for a sit in the sun Sunday afternoon. Really brassed off this week but warmer weather and less aching joints so one blessing at least. Some shots from Gateshead yesterday for my evenings offering! We were up at 4.30 am and in Newcastle by 8.30, I did really well for subject matter and although still misty cloud it cleared ready for Gateshead, South Shields and Sunderland. Tomorrow I carry on with the decorating after getting DVD orders sent off and our weekly shopping done. Just the woodwork to paint although that can be a tricky bit with the hall stairs and landing there are so many doors etc. On Fraday I'll be a Sutterden in South Lincs, should be sunshine all the way. Next Monday I'm hoping to do mt Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Avonmouth truck trip. Buses may be York and Scarbrough. Still no access to Youtube, the amount awaiting upload will be getting larger, bear with us it has already cost hundreds of pounds in Engineers and technician, a ipad I threw at the wall and a Smartphone that Monday has got on prescription for me with a number they can use for the verification texts that are presently being sent to a land line, how mad is that!. Anyway a bit tired now, here are shots from Newcastle this morning. Wet weather, inside painting the hall, stairs and landing in addition to adding several new uploads to the shop which are thus downloads! A tiring day as painting now takes its toll on my shoulders and neck. I did carry on with some scanning on the new Chinese 400' capacity 'pro' machine. To some degree it must be pro as it actually works. Bus needless to say it wouldn't be Chinese if it didn't have laughable flaws. The first is that in action with a 400' reel the whole machine is top heavy and without support would topple over, not so good for a £400 machine, really £99 would be more realistic for what it does. The biggest calamity though is the three white tabs you have to place the film in to feed through. The former version had just two white tabs this one has greater traction on the film as it has tabs on the top and bottom. To get this set you need to realise that the white tabs aren't white, well ok one is and one only. The others are black against black structure in a fiddly position at the best of times. It takes a torch to locate them but the actually copying ability so far so good. As a prop I use the pencil which formerly performed as a spindle on my home made take up spool for rewinding etc. Perhaps the machine needs to come with a free pencil. I need to keep my eye on the weather forecasts for Wed, Thurs, Friday this week which will probably be my filming days, it is going warmer they promise but I wonder really if summer will just miss us altogether. The film I'm feeding through the scanner is of Birmingham buses in the 70s plus milk floats, yes an interesting combination, the milk flloats are a Roger de Boer speciality. To come though will be the Malta films and here is a taste of Malta in times past. I'm fairly certain there wasn't an incontinent gunman loose in John Lewis's store at Handforth Dean near Manchester airport although on past performance anything is possible with police and fire reaction at three hours or more. It was yet another son of BR announcement over speakers. We couldn't hear the salesman as we discussed the quotation visit to measure and quote for carpets, longe, dining room and bedroom. We did go to the cafe and had what sounded a pleasant cake with rhubarb, almond etc really it was just extra sweet with icing with red squiggles and a thin layer of rhubarb. I have now finished decorating the downstairs loo and about to start tomorrow on the hall , stairs and landing with hopefully some time to look at the new 400' reel cine scanner. With reference to the weather forecast tonight we'll be filming two days bus and one trucks on Wed, Thursday and Friday. Saturday I'm painting the front door. I've got the appointment through for a scan ref the hernia at the local cottage hospital. The last week of the month will be a detailed coverage of good old Essex. Don't forget between all these jobs we run off the DVD orders, why not give downloads a try at just £8 and give us a break! All the domestic and rest stuff come in between trips. We seem to have got all dental appointments etc nicely spaced and can use part days for other jobs. Anyway with Essex coming into view lets revisit some past trips to that neck of the woods. After covering Ensign at Grays you can be sure that will feature and with a first visit to Clacton I know we need to start there early in the day to get the best lighting. The new 400' reel cine scanner arrived today one of the first in use in UK although I probably won't try it until tomorrow afternoon. It has been rather hectic with me tackling several jobs on the list. The downstairs loo got its coat of gold on one wall, a pig to apply so Mandy went and got a couple of small rollers. We re did it with them later in the day and it looks quite nice now, I remember doing a fireplace gold many years ago it was a pig to put on then, nothing has changed. I fitted the drain brackets to the porch, something that the tradesmen should have done themselves, quick enough to grab the money! I've pruned the climbing roses as most flowers were over and it was full of black spot. Also a good clearing up of the paths and mowed the lawns. The recycle bin is well full. I also tidied up around the shed patio area, the Jasmine shrub is full of flowers but even this needed tidying up a bit. The new scanner arrived mid afternoon with the post man, the box also contained so washing stuff for Mandy's side of control. Somewhere between those jobs I managed to get some more digital downloads on to the PMP shop and also scanned the 200' reels from Roger de Boer's collection of cine I picked up last week. The new machine will be able to handle the large 400' reels which are the most common we get. It includes Birmingham in the 1960s, some pleasant shots amongst the pack with milk floats dotted in here and there, the 1977 silver jubilee procession including buses and a milk float also feature. |
