I have still got my eye on several winter time archive tasks, The Stagecoach story, a coaching film and some brand new Bus Spots. I'm collecting material all the time for these projects which may not come flying off the production line but are always at the back of my mind waiting for the muse to alight! There aren't any events for us in November but in December we'll be doing both Saturday and Sunday at Boyle St, Manchester transport museum. I must start marking up some of the rallies for 2018, many are already announced. I'll try our new marquee out early in the year, hopefully there will be no more flooding of stock and you'll have cover while you peruse. It's crazy as the events go down and people switch to the internet the prices for stands at events keep going, £10 up at Boyle t for instance. We've dropped many of the shows which are nothing short of extortionate but will still have a go at some of the truck events as I like to film them even if the moths never get an outing from the pockets! So what on earth shall we have tonight, we had Yorkshire yesterday how about some lorries, lets dip into the golden oldies then
Even with the forecasts its hard to get accurate info until you are stood there looking at the sky and wondering what the weather will do, this country if of course next only to Ireland in it's unpredictability. Still at least I'm trying to do my best for you all. The decline in hits and revenue on Youtube have reversed a little but I still can't understand why these big dips and rises happen. I'm having a pint of real ale as I write, a very busy day. I've got another two archive rally DVD features completed but a few covers to maker now. The orders all went out this morning, I've spent several hours on my university ministry course reading and then later amending my first unmarked assignment which has to be extended then resubmitted. I keep bobbing up and down to the editing suite to see how the films are progressing, sometimes I forget and leave them for hours after they have burnt to disc etc, the nature of a mere male multitasking. So what on earth shall we have tonight, we had Yorkshire yesterday how about some lorries, lets dip into the golden oldies then A busy day started with an early appointment with the dentist at Partington although I took advantage of a swift journey and early arrival to do some course reading. Then it was back home and out with Mandy for various banking jobs and a trip to the butchers. Then after calling at Plumleys garden centre for morning coffee Mandy dropped me back and left me to do some studying while she did the rest of the shopping. An overcast but dry and still day which would have been ideal for bus filming but you can't win them all. I managed to copy some film material I needed and get a couple more archive rally DVDs done, last a bit late to get online this evening. We were out late afternoon to Manchester for the symphony concert at the RNCM, had dinner at Brodskys restaurant at the college and had a drink with Katie on the development, personal giving team. This all leaves plenty to do tomorrow as we have a few DVD orders to get through. Today and yesterday saw a dramatic fall in our Youtube hits and revenue although this usually reverses at weekends, its hard to tell what precipitates these peaks and troughs given the worldwide spread of our viewers. I did make a start getting more photos filed the last couple of days but lots now queued to go on our Smugmug still photo sales site. Frustrating that we don't have more hours in the day and an extra day or two to go in the week now and then. Between all these activities we are getting ready to decorate the lounge but getting the colour right is difficult as the present colours aren't a good base for the trials so a coat of white emulsion may be in order before top coats, all possibly later in the month but I do have to get a major course assignment in for month end. Then we start the next section which abruptly gets interrupted by Christmas as the course isn't aligned to the university year. What on earth can I give you tonight by way of pictorials, as I'm still waiting to cover Bradford, Halifax , York and Harrogate not to mention Keighley lets call in at Yorkshire Not the best of days, the BBC weather forecast was it's usual failure whereby sunshine became cloud and cloud where it would have been useful over Halifax or York was sunshine so I gave up and tried to return but the M62 needless to say was gridlocked and thus I had a very irksome journey taking in a few places I'd never seen before ( or will again?) I got my first part course assignment which isn't actually marked but gets doubled in length and resubmitted which makes up a third of the course marks, I wasn't very pleased with the results although in truth there are probably a lot more pluses than minus's but don't these things always hit you when you a tired and not having a good day. I did though have time to get some other jobs done and all the latest DVDs are on the list in shop and news section, actually probably a couple I've just done from 2003 not listed. I'm including the latest covers to show all my releases and I will get those bus locations done if and when the weather is right. The Royal mail seems to be having a bad hair week, never had so many enquiries over postal deliveries on DVDs. I did get the haulage company whose sub contracted agency lorry struck the church Lych gate twice to cover our insurance excess so not all bad! We are also messing around with match pots of green paint all over the lounge walls trying to find a suitable shade which doesn't look brown or ochre, I think we have one but we'll need a white emulsion over everything before we put on the top coats. Today after getting the DVD orders ready I went to the Cat & Fiddle near Buxton in Derbyshire. The traffic through to Macclesfield was like rush hour still at 10am. Parked up in my usual spot, I must learn to be more selfish in parking as two vans came along and blocked my view, after the first i was going to move my little car but was beaten to it by the next one, in the end I tried a silly angle across the space which worked better, some are deterred by the sight of the camera. Unblocked it offers a superb panorama of the lorries in both directions and still photos as well as video. The G reg Foden was probably star of the show I caught him on film twice, second time he stopped for a chat, nice chap I offered to send him the picture, he said he wish he had a photo of every truck he'd driven over the years. It was very icy this morning and a lot of mist around although the Cat & fiddle is way up above the fog. The pub there is still shut, there were about 6 hang gliders, a bit too cold for that lark. A nice continuity of wagons rolling past, I packed in just after 2pm as there were clouds starting to develop and the temperature was plumeting again. The cleaners were in when I got back, just put some clips of Bradford buses on Youtube and got another couple of DVD covers done. It film shows tomorrow so I'd better get my act together first thing and not forget the speakers, the village hall opens at 6pm for the main evening event at Plumley, The Swinging Sixties - the village shop didn't sell one ticket, Peter used to push the stuff a lot more . Anyway we've other things to get through first like Bradford so it's yesterday afternoon's selection. November already, it's hard to believe it, a shame that is would have been a great day for bus filming with hazy sun but we left our friend Sue's house mid morning and called in the potteries for a christening present and only got home at lunch time and then I had a meeting brought forward from this evening with vicar Jane ref our forthcoming Messy Church starting in a couple of weeks. In-between I got the DVD orders prepared and Mandy dropped them off at the post office, she then carried on to the Honda dealer in Crewe as the sat nav in the Jazz has lost it's numbers for post codes, I must look that up as the fix was a bit hit and miss. WE also managed to get rid of that awful magnifying glass icon on Mandy's laptop, given how hard it was to get rid of you wonder what mishap caused it to appear in the first place. We also figured out how to project the image without the computer screen icons showing, that was even more random. We also sold a few more tickets for my charity film night next week. I think thats about 25-30 sold and last time we had lots on the door on the night so fingers crossed. I've been following the weather closely waiting patiently for good weather, light cloud and dry to do York, Harrogate etc but tomorrow which is a free day looks mainly sunny in Yorkshire so it will be trucks probably at Wakefield which looks like being 100% sunny and has masses to offer, don't worry buses will get their updates as soon as conditions allow, only recently it was weeks we couldn't do the lorries. We have had hassles with Google/Youtube, they are blocking millions of clips worldwide with new software stopping advertising revenue if the 'crawler' doesn't understand what the content is, this means translating for an American programme with stuff like streetcars, autos plus I've added nostalgia and hobby here and there hoping to guide their programme away from blocking us. Please look at the adverts, they must be very well placed with all this research and monitoring going on but didn't stop one racist wanting all Bangladeshis harmed, it will of course be deleted and the person will no longer be able to comment, keep it all very family / hobby friendly which we look to bond us all in our shared interests although we recognise that ignorance and hatred was first aimed at us from as near as Yorkshire, thankfully repeated now it would bring a jail sentence for those concerned. So keep it safe and clean and enjoy, a few mores shots from Immingham |
