I'm trying to get ready for the new computer which will enable me to take advantage of the new high speed internet connection. As well as all that hassle it turns out the this new Voip lark cannot serve the extensions, for us that is unacceptable, how could Mandy manage getting to a phone from another part of the house. The whole replacement to fibre has been fraught, last week was just one problem after another. It wasn't that back as it was with BT the increase on uploads seems hardly to have changed. Meanwhile here are some more photos from the nocturnal running day Well I hope I captured some of the spirit of the day, I think it was all well inspired and there were few lulls in activity with something to film o photograph throughout the day and early evening. A really great day all round at the NWVRT Nocturnal running day at Kirkby. There were more buses than expected and most journeys had duplicates. The atmosphere was wonderful and it seemed that I new just about everybody there. Good to meet some more of our young Youtube viewers. Here is a small selection of photos taken today. It now looks as if we will have our still images hosted on the Transport Library website/shop. This could happen in the next week or so and give people more direct access to prints from our collection done at their premises which will speed the process up,. This would include both passenger transport road and rail/tram plus lorries and commercial vehicles. I'm trying to tie in two source extension drives to the first back up which is slightly made difficult by the numerous extra files weighing it down pending upload to the PMP shop. I'm getting a lot on but even with full fibre it isn't that fast. The car is loaded with 20 boxes of our DVDs and another box of extras mostly from archive features and local interest. We hope that many of you will call by when visiting the NWVRT nocturnal running day at Kirkby. I think we are hoping to see some of our old film playing a big screen to add to the many attractions. Too late now to bring anything special to order but you can request you DVDs at the event and they will be posted out on Monday. I have my eye on next Tuesday for a possible film excursion but haven't even loaded the Keighley films yet. Anyway a selection from the archive and a taste of Bangladesh as we travel there in December 2024 for our third visit. A very nice visit to Shrewsbury and lunch with Peter Waller of the OTA, actually it was what would have been a good filming day but fingers crossed that opportunities arise in the coming week. Not sire when our new computer will happen, chap was going to ring me on my mobile but didn't. Then there is the search for a new still image host, I ditched Smugmug after they sold 650 images of Hong Kong for £60. I'm hopeful that I can get them on the Transport Archive which already hosts many OTA images. Meanwhile its pub night, still only a couple of DVD orders, it is really died this week so I'm going to load yet more to Youtube which is now our last resort before we have to ditch things like Buses advert as there just isn't the business to sustain those types of sales. An entirely internet based model better suits our situation with a low outlay. I've updated the PMP DVD list, plus put many new downloads on the shop and the latest Buses mag Christmas issue has been out for nearly a week. As the shop landing page says, we are away much of December so anything that is a must for Christmas needs to get to us by the end of November. Photos tonight a few more from the very damp Keighley bus station visit. The weather at Keighley was pretty dire and not really like the weather outlook but I got there in the end not helped by the closure of the M62, I sort of had a feeling that the satnav should have taken me via Burnley. So some photos that I did manage to get and then home early afternoon. The saga of the fibre internet carries on , it seems our office computer isn't up to processing the mega bit connection speeds, a pity they didn't mention this in the months preceding the installations in the village. A simple little minimum spec needed would have been useful and we could check it all out. Anyway I found a chap in Northwich who is going to get one put together for me with all the wing bats and ding dongs that it will need and he is going to try and have it all up and running by next Monday. Nothing at all by way of DVD orders today which is weird as it is heading towards Christmas and the new issue of Buses magazine came out last week. We are at the Kirby Nocturnal running day on Saturday with around 20 boxes of DVDs mostly recent ones so why not come along and see us there. Meanwhile some pictures from Keighley. Getting moving image files backed up cab be a very lengthy process , I'm trying to get two extension drives cleared so I can take the OTA copy down to Shrewsbury with me when I visit Peter Waller on Thursday. The weather seems to have put pay to filming this week, the chap from St Helens glass came to measure up for the new front door when I was on the phone for nearly two hours trying to sort a problem with Microsoft. You have to go through several people at the call centres until you strike gold with someone who actually wants to help you resolved a problem, it turned out to be a phantom email the computer builders put in at manufacture which for some reason it picked up on and then charges me for 365 access to Office suite which I already have.
Then later today a marathon for Mandy as she went through the same process trying to link up the new fibre connection to our Tyll terminal. Again it was after several tries that they believed me that they were asking for the wrong code number but they never listen, Mandy finally got there and we are up and running on cards over phone or mail order as opposed to Online. The weather continues to be foul, no days look that good but I've still got hopes to get the remainder of the 2023 programme covered. I'm running some old b&W film through the colourising process, I have a few that look good to use in future films, this one is on Birmingham and has nice early post war street scenes in it. I'm also digitising another of my Mini Dv films, this time Hong Kong 2007 which will go on Youtube and as a resource on the shop as a download. Hopefully I'll get more on this week which makes up for the lack of trips filming. Our friend Colin in Barking has I hope persuaded some of the London enthusiasts to consider sharing their material with the OTA via ourselves, scanning a copy for the donors. A chilly damp morning for remembrance Sunday at Mobberley, we were glad to get home to some heat but it was a very good service always heartening to see a full church and the primary school children did really well. So back home and caught the end of the London parade and took the opportunity to flick through the latest round of bus magazines. Despite our Christmas ad appearing this week little business on the web/. I have managed to put quite a few more downloads on the PMP shop. The net connection still seems to be pathetic, I've no great hope the Vista the provider will contact me now so we will have to contact the ombudsman, they had a great chunk of public money to install as our is rated as a business albeit not for profit. Some more shots from the Belfast trip, I wonder if there will be a window of hope this week for filming. We have our friend Sue with us this weekend, the girls have gone to Warrington to pay the balance on our Senegal trip in February. I'm getting the Belfast material edited, 3 DVDs on lorries and 2 on Buses. Plus of course trailers on Youtube. Last night I put a couple of trailers on the OTA Youtube channel based on the material from our latest benefactor Colin in Barking. It was the British Polio Fellowship branch dinner today. Still no news from Vispa on the broadband installation which seems to have failed, they don't respond to communications. Here are some bus shots from the Belfast visit. I'm just finishing off saving the last 2 scans of Colin Lovett's European steam rail visits in the 1970s then will start on the Belfast bus and track films. |
