11 films done over past 7 days, all to edit this week, lots of jobs to catch up with
Pictures from Cobham at Brooklands yesterday. Next off down to Kent and Sussex, a big round of editing to get on with later this week. All DVD orders have been cleared and in the post today. The drive back was horrendous as the M6 was closed. Our latest film sold in support of the OTA with scenes by Martin Jenkins featuring Routemaster buses in their final days working on various routes around the capital. Filmed on Hi8, digitised and upgraded, recommended digital download for maximum quality, available on DVD. So two new releases from PMP on sale this Sunday at Brooklands. We'll be on the road a lot these coming days so back with you next week.
A busy day as ever but I eventually got the clips on Youtube for the recent round of films which were copied to Facebook. Then I continued while on a roll with Mandy's family history getting a better time line for hard to pin down relatives which go back to Ireland which is always a challenge as so few Irish records survive with many being destroyed in the civil war. Tomorrow is Polio Fellowship branch agm at Ellesmere Port and haircut, bird feed , shopping M&S etc. Then on return pack car for Surrey and then Friday down and film weather dependent perhaps Oxford and High Wycombe, Saturday may head to Kingston and ?. Then on return Sunday after Brooklands Mandy goes off early Tuesday, I drop her at airport then film in Kent and then Wednesday Sussex with birthday dinner with John Bishop for his 80th which is actually a few days later when they have a family meal. Shame Dave Vaughan can't make it as he has been a friend of mine since childhood and John for many years. So must cut it short as I want to finish the cover for the Martin Jenkins Routemaster DVD.
Mark Ashmore , Mandy's cousin, has made a very helpful discovery on the Irish side and could lead to passport applications for Ireland. It has been a long time since we unearthed new material and shows the plight of Mandy's great grandmother who with her 6 month old baby Marie ( Minnie) ended up in the work house after her husband George Murphy left them. He went to USA and established another family. Minnie had a removal order against her so she couldn't live 'on the parish' to return to Ireland. George was a book illustrator. Minnie did very well in her life marrying twice and leaving a substantial legacy when she died. ( ties in with Hardy to Nicholson and Hastings families).
I've been slogging on through the various DVDs which I've advertised recently getting all the digitised files stored and Youtube clips prepared. I'm hoping to have most of it finished tonight and then load the Youtube clips tomorrow. I'm also scanning old cine for OTA, the Phil Tatt collection , these scenes taken 1960-61. Always a joy rolling back the years on these trips, IOM at the moment. Easter greetings everyone, here are a few more shots from our coverage of the Cumbrian running day and rally at Kirkby Stephens from yesterday. After church this morning we had a few domestic chores to do like hacking back the dead growth on the Passionflower which got hammered by the late severe frosts early March. I've got quite a lot of work to do on the latest round of DVDs which I need to get cleared as we travel down to Surrey for Brooklands rally on Friday morning, targets to film depends on weather which could be a bit damp. I'll be in the South again next week when Mandy goes off to Spain with friend Sue, I will be in Kent and Sussex, long range weather looks more promising. I'd already tracked down the lads with the NWVRT buses having breakfast minutes after arriving. The weather was fine, buses mostly Barrow, Merseyside or Scottish - surprised nothing North East there but perhaps they come Sunday when I'm tied up at church. The drivers were captured on film in a number of locations, hopefully I've covered them all plus some of the lorries mostly parked up . I know they have a Saturday evening run but we have friends staying tonight. I did have a nasty incident with two photographers in Brough where I inadvertently got in front of hunting out the end of the route 'depot', they abused and intimidated me I even apologised but note as usual bullies come in pairs seldom alone, I hope they got a kick from upsetting a 71 year old. Also my try at stopping people messaging me on Facebook seemed to fail and I get people flooding me with calls repeatedly. The only was to stop this is to come off Facebook which seem rather drastic but you would think there would be a button to stop messages, why not just email if they need to make contact. 7 films now to edit tomorrow and Monday. Photos from Cumbria today. I picked up another batch of the Phil Tatt cine collection to scan, we took the opportunity as usual to go down the pub, as it turned out neatly between the heavy showers. It looks like a familiar mix not much UK other than IOM and the end of trolleys in London parade. Last time I was down there Martin Jenkins had left a box of Hi8 tapes to see if we could make anything to support OTA from them. I think they are around 2005 and mostly chasing remaining Routemasters. So I'm downloading a couple to get a feel for them. I need to get the extension disc I'm using backed up and sort out the files that OTS need, this will be the second external drive I've filled to share with them. I had an order today for trucks from Vietnam going to the USA, which has sparked tonight's slide show. It was very sad to hear that Alton rally is off, a chance for both buses and lorries plus cars to meet together in a large area which has boasted the largest running day possibly or probably in the world needing its own bus station on site and vehicles departing constantly. I think this all merits a slide show for today. Lets hope that the logistics required come together for next year, that and the South East Bus Festival at Detling gone makes with Showbus gone a huge dent. The Wythall at Gaydon route seems a practical solution and wins all round. Tomorrow I'm down at Shrewsbury with Peter Waller of Online, the weather here today damp and dark, the birds are happy as I filled all the feeders first thing. A bit of a lay in this morning, never stirred until nearly 8 am. I'm working on yet another London archive, getting stuff ready for Brooklands. I'm hoping to get one together on London buses in the 1980's. Next will be a few archives with Midlands, East and West! including some Midland Red archive. |
