The computer screen went to twice normal size, took ages before i remembered the right click and then the quality setting. We tried to catch up on some more tv just to have a relax but ended up with sign language and voice over which we couldn't get rid of anyway whatever, I think they have put the wrong version on the catch up and nothing else is like this, I detest these constant changes , it was almost easier with video tape recorders than this awful mess they turn out with buttons all over the place. The Boris dead in a ditch statement did give us some hope for the future yesterday! Photo slide show from Wolverhampton visit yesterday.
A dismal autumnal day with rail on and off all the time, dark and cold now. We watched some tv on catch up after returning from the The Crown last night so late to bed however made up for it by not stirring until 9.30 which is almost unheard of for us. Some sad family news but I got on with the jobs outstanding which meant the shelving once more. Did this through to mid afternoon then cleaned up and we went to High Leigh garden centre to get some bits for the garden like bulbs for spring, Miracle grow and some supplementary bid feed now we get sunflower hearts in bulk on the net. We also had coffee and cake there. I've loaded the latest Walsall and Wolverhampton clips to Youtube, I'll try and get more digital downloads on the shops, we aren't far behind the DVDs now. Looking ahead now for filming opportunities next week. The computer screen went to twice normal size, took ages before i remembered the right click and then the quality setting. I headed to Walsall and Wolverhampton as there was no rain forecast today unlike locaitons in our region or Yorkshire and I didn't want to travel too far. Anyway it being in the nature of life it had showers at both locations but nothing to stop the action. Nothing new by way of buses but super friendly drivers in both towns and in Wolverhampton the tramway extension is progressing very well with track in place now infrastructure and overhead wires to put in place, the new trams look very smart but I'll save them for a Midland Metro update film when all the new work is finished. Good news for filming at Wolverhampton, for whatever reason all operators are now using the new bus station which really means the addition of Banga and Express, thats the other express, rather at the other end of the bus leagues. More Diamonds there as well so very easy to cover and much appreciated rather than tramping around too much. Wolverhampton seems to be on the up while Walsall seems to descend to new depths with each passing year. Photos from Walsall first. Lets head off in some different directions starting with a bit of my adopted family history, this photo kindly sent by my cousin Valerie in Australia was taken at Christmas 1946 in Eastbourne, Sussex. Valerie and my cousins Michael and Chrissie are the only people still with us. George Eaton who would die in 1948 then my father George Spencer recently discharged from the regular army ( Kings Liverpool) due to injury sustained pre war and to his right Uncle Claude who had probably taken this with a timer on his camera. Then auntie Thelma and Auntie Olive, Olive was widowed in the war, Sam Osborne volunteered for the parachute regiment and was flown to France just before midnight to capture enemy control and communication centres as D Day got underway. He was shot coming down and survived a few days and died at Caen where he is buried. The two young men are his sons, Chris still living near Eastbourne at Pevensey and Michael between Melbourne and Beijing, professor emeritus of both universities former vice chancellor of Melbourne . To their left my cousin Sandy sadly taken away so early by cancer. We know it is 1946 as by next Christmas as cousin Ellie was born in 1947 and she isn't in the picture. Auntie Sylve to the left of grandmother and front row Valerie next to Marion or Maisie as they knew her who would adopt me in mid 1952 after failing to have a live birth, goodness doesn't she look young here. Well I've been busy today getting the shelving fitted to the first in the room long set of display cabinets which have already taken six days work. The next set is easier as I've drilled through the doweling supports into the next section ensuring common height and less work next time round. Still some sanding to do , I had to removed some of the caulking and replace with polyfiller for ease of sanding and shaping. Tomorrow I'm out filming but I haven't watched the weather yet to decide where, probably not too far from home. When I'm at my busiest I have the least time to blog and that is the current situation. I sorted out the import of the scanner by paying the extra tax being levied by UK is support of our masters in Washington. Then I sorted out how to get my new allocation of EAN ( bar code) numbers which now has a great dollop of do it yourself. The first series are unique to PMP then more numbers and then another number generated by the agent which added to our number gives the EAN the last stage is on line. Then I can get our latest DVDs listed on Amazon. Another bit of effort required is to get more material on digital download for the shop, I encountered one of the Ukraine trip that had not registered on the master, I remade it and still had problems until we copied it with another machine, the likelihood of this was outlandishly rare but all is well and I can recommence catch up. I've also been trying to get the last few trips worth of still photos filed, this is ongoing. The main thrust of the day was the shelving units, all are now caulked so look integral with the room. A couple of the sections I reused timber for need some more remedial work but that can be ongoing tomorrow while I get the first sections shelves erected. Everything has had an initial coat of white paint. The shelves themselves when cut will be painted before installation. Tonight a selection of photos from the past week with Orpington. Hoping to get filming done this Thursday, a long list already presented with lots more local opportunities for autumn. We have still to sit and get our cultural rations sorted out for the season and time is marching on! Struggling with Amazon on all fronts today as I tried to update all our shops. The only one which you can rely on is ours on this website. The EBay shop has all recent releases added but Amazon has scrambled the DVD numbers up with the descriptions, they are not live so no chance you'll get the wrong thing. I'm scrapping all EAN numbers held and asking for new ones tomorrow. Hours of time get wasted on these things which I haven't got to spare. Also having problems with delivery of the new cine scanner, I think it is in the country but they want additional taxes, I've no idea who to speak to, normally everything on Amazon UK even when posted from overseas has allowance for duty built in. I'm sure this one will run forever. It was doctors today for blood test and dentist for check up. Back getting better slowly. I finished the DVD covers for the latest releases which are on the shop, struggling to get the digital download versions on the shop as they take quite a while. Here are the latest DVD releases . Trailers for all these are already on Youtube. Here are some shots fro Southend last Friday Tomorrow I hope to start the caulking on the shelf unit and prepare some of the shelves, perhaps make a jig for marking the support holes for drilling. I'm busy editing the Essex and London DVDs from Friday and Saturdays filming, I must remember to avoid weekdays with feral youths around. We should have been at Heaton Park Trans Lancs rally today but it was cancelled. Next week we have the Pier head event at Liverpool which I intend filming if the weather is better than today which has seen several sharp showers. I've been getting the covers ready to fit on stock replenishment DVDs prepared after we went through the DVDs at Lathalmond and there were lots missing and out of place. So when we next attend a rally which is in two weeks at Great Harwood we shall have stock from the past couple of years. I hope to prepare more archive material over the autumn and winter months, before then though we have a few locations lined up which include Hampshiee,Cumbria, Sth Wales, Lancashire, Walsall&Wolves, York&Harrogate, Swindon & Bath, Rochdale&Oldham,Halifax&Bradford,Cambridge,Staffs, Glos & Hereford, Cheshire, Keighley, Warwicks, Barnsley & Rotherham. Plenty there to have a go at and thats just buses we have plenty more trucks locations lined up. We shall also be away in Indonesia in October for two weeks.
