I was annoyed to lose out on the Ebay auction of prewar Cuba 16mm film but I haven't got the time to sit all day waiting for the last minute dash to win. I have bought a few more but only where the prices are sensible or the content sounds great, mostly of course home movies are wedding, kids and pets. I haven't seen many new Atlas buses around , the Ikarus artic sold for a heap of money and no more have appeared since. There are lots of livery variations between the different release countries, I wonder why they think that the British can only accept UK prototypes, anyway I keep my eyes peeled. The weather forecast for the weekend and bank holiday seems suited to our purposes, we are coveing Newcastle, Gateshead, South Shields and Sunderland on Saturday then having a rest Sunday morning before we go off to a golden wedding celebration near Chester. Then on Monday I'll be at truckfest at Peterborough, Mandy will sit that one out at home. I've just started work on the French trip in June, not oodles of locations but three tramways we haven't yet recorded plus an update on the Limoges trolleybus scene. A few trucks if we are lucky and if we are even more lucky a couple of days entirely at rest. I haven't progressed the Colombia trip again , it can wait until the French one is plannbed. We are also intending to add some days to our southern based rally weekends which hopefully will sweep up the likes of Tunbridge Wells, Outer London, Isle of Wight to name but a few. The next rally we'll be at is the Fenland Event in a couple of weeks followed by the PMP Sponsored POPS rally at the Brittania Stadium at Stoke. I'm on the last two trucks DVDs for Belfast, I then need to get started on the covers. I uploaded a lots of clips from Northern Ireland on our Youtrube channel last night so if you visit remember to give each advert a click or two. The first of the Belfast trucks DVDs is already complete and the clips are ready to load on Youtube later on this evening. The Mexico DVDs are all complete and have been loaded on to the PMP Shop so you can already purchase them. I'm just burning the second volume of Belfast trucks and tonight offer a selection of shots from the Cultra rally last Saturday which makes up one of the six DVDs covering the long weekend. I received another three parcels of old cine film this week, the latest was a signed for that we mossed so Mandy had to go all the way to the main post sorting office at Knutsford. It's been quite sunny today well what little I saw of it, the temperature was on the chilly side whisked up by a stiff wind, I'd the booster on my office heater for much of the day. I've tried to catch up on the paperwork at the office but there is a deluge now spreading over nearly two months due to trainer illness, holidays etc, I did my best and the pile has diminished and the back should be broken by tomorrow. I left a splendid review for The Old School House near Comber in Co Down, the food was really superb and the room good value. I need to start looking at our trip to France and then Colombia for next January. I'm hoping to hear from Martin some time about the Russian trip late summer, I must get the splattering of tickets I managed to grag in Mexico off to him. So while I'm blitzing the Belfast films here are some shots of the Cultra Rally near Belfast on Saturday, damp start good finish. Home at last after a very long day, we encountered every kind of weather from slet and snow to wind and rain and at all times freezing cold until we reached the relative warmth of home. A lot of orders on the internet to be downloaded, the connection on the home computer had failed, that's the second time for Orange in the last month after trips away, something we could best do without. Thew morning episode at Oban probably went a lot better than we could have expected and perhaps it's time to ease off and just admit defeat and let the bad guys walk all over us, that seems the way the world is set up and be happy with small victories. We had another couple of bundles of cine film via EBay arrive whilst we were away and there is another that needs signing for at the post office. I'm downloading the films from the last few days and then I do need to get the PMP shop updated with all the Mexico films which have been notable for their lack of appeal on Youtube so some more advert hitting please all when you visit. Coming soon will be the Belfast Cultra bus rally and Belfast buses plus four , yes a whole 4 DVDs on the trucks of Belfast which features quite a lot of sunshine, a bit of snow and hundreds of lorries. So that should keep me busy for a while. So here are the first batch of photos straight from the camera, we are going to catch a bit of TV and have a rest, work tomorrow. We were sad to leave the old school house at comber where we had been very well looked after for three nights. The weather forecast had warned of light rain showers which actually turned out to be moderate snow or hail and it was near freezing. As I'd already managed to cover the buses in Belfast on Friday afternoon I concentrated once note on lorries and to start with the weather wasn't that much of an issue, the first hour was almost all in sunshine before going down hill. We were pretty well on schedule when I caught up with Mandy back at the pmp van and we spent a while getting onto the correct road for the ferry but found it in the end and had a cuppa at the port before boarding. We settled down into the stena plus lounge then the electric went off while many was in the loos, thankfully the doors defaulted to open and the emergency generators kicked in. We were an hour late getting under way and this was already a tight journey. We needed up the south Ayrshire coast which we never seen before good truck filming territory should Scotland ever make its peace with us in the future. The weather went worse and worse as we headed north plummeting to zero and eventually blizzard conditions with the roads not gritted or salted at all, thankfully there was little traffic and we finally got to the first house on the outskirts of Oban near eleven pm. Goodness knows what will happen, the earthquake in Nepal could have struck Oban and done us all a favour but no such luck.
poldark rubbish on the television as we come to the end of a relaxing day in northerb ireland on a day which often threatened rain but hardky dekuveted, the temperature may have hovered hardly above freezing but it was mosrly sunny. We git up very late for us and has a traditional ulster fry which included delicius thick bacon and yummy suasages and the tastuest egg id had for many along day. We had alresdy planned our itinarary with the argory and ardress house two nt properaties cliseby only an hour fronnthe wonderful old schoolghouse near comber in co down which is thecoubty of mandys natural father. It was a most relaxing day which riughly translated means that mandy didvthe driving and i did the sleeping at every opportunity. It has been a marvellous plave to stay and the nt properties were both delightgful with the argory having avictorian weejend with staff acting out the parts of servants guiding you around the house by far thebest being the washerwoman at the end who scares the wits out of most of the visitors with her sharo tongue, actualky very wekl acted and brought it all to life alyhough in typical fashion the timing of the cafe etc had gone to pot as they tried to fit innthe victorian afyernoon teas and all the acting and it was down to a coffee machine at adress house an ancient ulster settlets pool lantation house much rebuilt in pallafium stylr. We called in ata few beauty spots along strangdotd loough on our eay bavk. Lost out on some ebay bidsbut i refuse to pay silly money however mote obsvure film loxations go for a song and we have a mass of folms awaiting copyinh. Tomorrow oncemote into belfast for some mote truck film and then sail back to the s plave ready for court on oban on titssfay morning.
Weebly is messing about again this evening the latest version if their app is pretty rubbish and it just crashes out and you lose everything you've typed. We had a great meal last night where we are staying at the old school house near comber. We declined breakfast this morning as we thought we should have an early start getting to the museum which was about thirty minutes away. We hadn't reckoned on northern Irish time which meant we were the only ones there for quite some time this morning. The day started of dull wet and breezy and freezing cold.we got the sales stand up with minimal problems and shrouded ourselves in the tarpaulins to keep everything dry. We met lots of people for the first time and a lot that often come over to the English rallies. Two bus owners found pictures I'd taken circa 1980 of their actual buses and another spotted a friend who was at the stand driving that year.. When the buses started arriving they seemed to go on for quite a wheel and certainly a lot that I'd never seen before although there were some that were expected which didn't make it including one from the south no mean feat sorting out a breakdown on a preserved bus. We had a better days trading than Mandy did at Cobham last week although the expenses getting here wipe out any profit.the weather faired up as the morning went on albeit still cold at least its warm in our digs. There a small lounge with tea and coffee making and biscuits near our room which is spacious and warm forgive going on about warmth but it seems very important with the bitter wind, chance of snow on Monday in Belfast although it could be sunny again.I though the turnout today was pretty good and it included a lot of our friends from the potteries who cane in a Beresford's bus. The pops rally goes ahead at the stoke brittania stadium again this year its only a few weeks away. When we drove to the rally there were election banners for the greens ukip and conservatives it was strange to think we were actually I. Northern Ireland.
Clickwe set off this morning from Stranraer in Scotland and had a very good crossing over a mist but mill pond of a sea across to Belfast with a very quiet stena plus lounge almost to ourselves. The inn where we stayed was very quiet and did what was required although a bit on the chilly side. We were so in parked up in Belfast city centre th. Which was handy for Mandy to get to the shops and she certainly did her bit to boost the local economy this morning. As the mist cleared the sun came out and it was quite warm right through to lunch time and I managed to get two superb hours of the trucks at my favourite Belfast truck film spot then met up with Mandy and had a brew and bakewell tart in marks and spencers then just in case it isn't so good Monday filmed the buses and spotted one of their Brant new look deckers perhaps it will be at the rally tomorrow, the forecast isn't brilliant but fingers crossed , not sure what time everyone starts to roll up but I think breakfast here will be too late, its a restaurant with rooms near comber just on strabgford lough. At least we only have a few steps to dinner this evening. Time seems to have flown. I got a reply from the Scotland independent police enquiry board and surprise surpirise my complaint about the police incident at the commonwealth games wasn't recorded and all that on their special hate crime registration page. The whole thing has developed into an enormous cover up thankfully the matter is already known to mi5 which will give them all a shock. Our anger seems to rise with each passing minute having got mixed up with such horrendous people and the SNP nationalist bitch as the arbitor of last resort. Looking forward to dinner tonight, if tomorrow is wet well snow is a possible for Sunday but on the plus side Monday should be better again . I hope lits of you manage to get along to cultra museum tomorrow where we have a huge amount of Irish material plus half the pmp DVD stock overseas for the first time.
the weebly app seems to have changed and of course i had all the triuble with the email while i was in mexico, at leastit is working almost correctly which is something. It was another day of blue sky and very warm, i got back home and we had dinner before we set off. Its a long drive all the way up to stranraer and not a journey that id want to do very often. I drove first then handed over to mandy as i was tired, i hadn,t slept much last night. The scenery was great even if it was scotland and we are tucked up in our little cabinat the rear of an inn in town only a few mins drive to cairnryan in the morning for the early stena crossing to belfast. I,m going to do the trucks in the afternoon and then we are staying three nights at a restaurant with rooms on the loch across from our usual spot but we wanted to have easy access to food and the last couple of times we have struggked to get anything good quality. The rally is on saturday and we look forwardsto meeting lots of you at cultramuseum.
Yes we are off ready for a grand weekend over the water, it's taken a bit of a last minute panic all round but we are definitely going to be on the Cultra rally on Saturday so see you there, we've got all the Irish photos and DVDs North and South and don't worry if you are up from the ROI we'll take Euros as well. We've ditched half the DVD stock but that still leaves 50 boxes of DVDs to choose from the first time our regular stock has traveled over the water. We shall be leaving Thursday afternoon traveling up to Stranraer and then catching the early ferry over to Larne and then into Belfast for the Friday afternoon trucks from the dock area . Saturday is the rally and then Sunday we'll relax with a National Trust visit. Then Monday morning I'll be filming buses in Belfast ready for an afternoon departure over to Scotland and then up to wherever we pick for the night before getting up to Oban first thing Tuesday to the kangaroo court there. The jack boots of the SNP will soon be marching through Edinburgh unless they manage a civil war before then. Hopefully we won't be too late getting back down to Cheshire and work on Wednesday, a couple of days then and we are into the hectic bank holiday weekend with filming who knows where on the Saturday, a golden wedding party on the Sunday and Monday at Peterborough Truckfest, always a late one as I record the departures through to the bitter end, lets hope the weather then is better than the coming weekend after all this sunshine we'll be shocked as temperatures tumble although it's been frosty every morning. The blue tits are pecking at the van windows but the stock is safely loaded, I've got to put my camera bag and Hudl in and then I want to get some covers done for the Mexico DVDs, the last one is just burning and there will be more clips on Youtube overnight and some links below to whet your appetite. Hopefully I'll get some blogs done along the way so fingers crossed for our first Ulster rally with the PMP stand, if you want us to bring you along any particular DVD best ring and ensure we'll have it with us. A few scenic and personal shots of John Bishop and myself on our recent trip to Mexico. It's a shame the great weather we've experienced this week back at work isn't set to last but I think we shall go ahead with the trip to Northern Ireland as scheduled although we are still holding off booking anything until the very last minute in case the weather forecast goes further down the pan than now. Actually sat in the office away from the sun it was quite chilly at times. We are starting to get busy at work with our mainstream business plus the training. Mandy has a busy day and visited her cousin Trish and Derek in Sale and called in at the Southern cemetery and reported back on the family graves which are still looking quite colourful. Another family baby on the way it seems and Anne and Dudley will be spliced in December but only if Anne gets the time off work, bit late now girl! The chaps from Greenthumb came todfay with the spring lawn treatment which was good timing as I'd only cut the lawns yesterday. I had a quick flick through the transport mags, only got Trolleybus and Light rail done and half way through buses with Commercial Motors Vintage to go. So much to do as usual and tonight I'm already rendering the Mexico City truck DVD with the Guadalajara ones to follow on and I'll probably put then in the shop by tomorrow night if I can get the covers done. I was looking at the Colombian quote today, hotels seemed a bit mediocre and the pace a bit tiring but it covers quite a lot, only thing was at least one destination looked a bit on the edge for security but then look at Mexico before we went. The first round of clips are already on Youtube and remember if you visit click on the adverts, there may be something you like and it costs nothing to look but pays for the trips you enjoy watching. We received a 1960s reel of Jersey cine today and I've bid on a few more films on EBay. Some shots then of John and I in Mexico, the whole plane home was full of buzz but they couldn't understand why John Bishop was in cheapo cattle class and not 1st, I said John was his dad. You'll note the picture of our guide/driver asleep, too many trolleys in one week! |
