Frustration sets in as we are still waiting for broadband provider Visper to achieve the promised speeds their remote tests show 10 times what we are getting so it has to be something on the local network going wrong. I'm away in Belfast early tomorrow back Wednesday night. Also the films I was compiling with my Danish archives has gone on the back burner as all the files I'd edited and sorted vanished from the timeline, they are on the external drives but it is two days work lost. I'm saving Colin Lovetts European steam railway films from the 1970s having finished scanning them earlier on. Vispa are goning to visit in the morning but that has meant Mandy has had to change her plans as she needs to go to Chasetown to get a part of her wheelchair replaced. Meanwhile here is a reminder of the recent DVD releases, it was a bumper morning off to the post office with two bags full of DVDs going out. We still seem to have a big issue with the new download speed, at present it is about 10% of that when installed- I hope they can get it sorted quickly but even at that it is much quicker than it was before and two whole days have seem lots of films go on. I hope to get all the recent releases on soon. Tuesday I fly to Belfast so keep an eye open for me we have lots of followers there. I hope to do trucks as well as buses, staying at the old Drurys hotel now rebranded as Leonardo. I am likely to have three who archive features on Denmark with whole chunks of ancient film colourised. I am still going to figure out how deoldify works, I've a list of apps to download to facilitate. I'm not sure what tonights slide show will be as I've so many external drives loading up. Yes its another look at the NWVRT hosting of the National Association of Road Transport Museums, our next big event is the Nocturnal Running Day.
The broadband speeds today were a lot less than yesterday which needs sorting by Vispa but even so they are a lot faster than with BT. I've managed to get quite a few uploaded and I'm editing a film on Denmark transport. I'm also scanning Colin Lovetts films of steam trains in Europe in the 1970's. I've also added some more digitised files from old VHS tapes just in case the source material vanishes. The weather has been damp and cold. Tuesday I fly out to Belfast for two days, I'll make sure I've got my hat and gloves. All the camera gear is ready, all batteries charged. A few DVD orders have come through. We should be able to get a wider customer base with the extra downloads, I'm just ploughing through in the order on the drive I'm using.
Tomorrow we should be on full fibre connection, expecting the engineer about 10am. I'm scanning some more of the Colin Lovett film collection, this batch are all steam trains in Europe around mid 1970's. I've treated a batch of Video 8 material which contained film back to 1983, treated it with NEAT then the new Video proc upscaler from 25 to 50 fps with AI enhancement on new frames rather than just duplication as Aimersoft. It works quite quickly although the new Proc enhancer looks as if it would take a while. I'm loading more clips on to Youtube today. The weather is wet and blustery as darkness falls but nothing compared to what hit the south today, bit like 1987 although this time warnings were heeded. I should have been in Shrewsbury today but Peter wasn't very well so delayed the visit until later this month. We have now booked up most things through to Christmas, anything received after the 30th November may not get to folk before Christmas we have time away in Ireland. Talking of which I'm in Belfast for a coule of days this next week, the weather looks calmer then. So lets have Belfast for our slide show tonight, don't forget to catch uprated films on Youtube tonight. A couple of bits of tech that I need for Friday when the fibre gets connected picked up at Sainsburys in Knutsford, on the way back I stopped at Booths and stocked up on real ales. I managed to get a couple more films off tapes digitised and also one of my West Midlands masters ready for clips on Youtube plus as download on our shop. A mix of quality as it goes from 1983 ( courtesy Dave Cole) to 1994. I got the last batch of DVDs o our own shop then caught up with EBay shop not that we want anybody to purchase that way. Here are a couple of shots of the wiring being draped across the roofs yesterday ready to install fibre Friday. Tomorrow I'm with Peter Waller of OTA in Shrewsbury. We have received some more cine reels covering steam railways in Europe ( East and West) in the 1970s. There could be a much bigger collection heading to ourselves then to OTA with worldwide coverage. Some shots from Chesterfield Monday |
