Today we had yet more sad news, another dear friend has died, Pauline Bubb, many of us knew Pauline through her husband Tim and their preserved London Country GS, they moved up to Shropshire a few years ago and Glenn the surviving son is a friend through Boyle St museum at Manchester and many trips to Malta and Cyprus and we have shared banter and have a common joint liking for all classic and vintage vehicles from buses through lorries and vans to cars. Tim also has an old SEGAS van and was transport manager when I was an apprentice on the gas board in Eastbourne. Pauline would always a refuge with Mandy from transport chat when we met at rallies and Boyle St sales. Thankfully Glenn and Caroline managed to get back from holiday in the Caribbean to be with his mother and dad at the last. I've spoken to Tim and although it is a hard task getting along on your own better than watch a loved one suffering constant pain, he is looking after himself and the family are all there to support him. It just seems that every phone call and Christmas card and even emails brings news of death o, injury or illness. I've got the colonoscopy brought forward to next Tuesday which clashes with Paulines funeral, another reason I wanted to speak to Tim and offer our support. The weather outlook kept changing and with the North East looking to bright, Cambridge seemed a reasonable bet so we headed off early and had our first taste of the new road to Cambridge, a couple of huge junctions still to be built but a journey a great deal easier and it looked as if it was only just opened. Cambridge seems strange with barely any Whippet presence, A2B still call in at the bus station I think I saw three of theirs, Whippets are often just white so sometimes hard to identify. At St Ives I saw at least four of Dews buses in service and then we went to Huntingdon, cold, windy and not a lot happening, a mix of Whippets , Dews and mostly Stagecoach. Next time we'll cover St Neots. Next week we are tied up with dentists and hospital Monday and Tuesday, fingers crossed we can get out with the camera Wed to Friday but it doesn't look that good at present but changes come often this time of year. I was lucky in getting shots of the demonstrator with Stagecoach at St Ives, presumably being tested for viability on the end sections of the guided bus way. We had all the election news as we drove down leaving home 5.30 this morning, what is done is done, a lot of people will come to regret their actions, it will cost everyone dear but with so many more important things going on this year we are concentrating on our own health and well being. At least our shares might go back up! Photos then from today's trip, I'll download the film and get it edited tomorrow. Comments are closed.
