The BBC weather forecast changed quite a bit overnight, I double checked this morning as the over night rain had ceased and it had dried up and there was even a glimmer of brightness trying to get through. I had a bit more of a sleep today and when I woke up I managed twice to drift off again finally getting out of bed around 7.30 am. I finished off preparing a flurry of overnight internet DVD orders and then did a stint of the bicycle machine in the garage and then took the post around to the village shop. It still looked good, I'd looked up Burton upon Trent before coming out, it was now forecast cloudy but dry all day so I took a chance and went there only to find torrential rain, if the can't even get it right when they could phone someone up to look out the window we've no chance with a next day look ahead. There was nothing for it back to head home. I missed out one early morning task, I'd got the 16mm projector out from storage and set up and had a scout through the 16mm film reels for some straight forwards silent films with twin sprockets. This should give the easiest starting point for my learning curve as its been a long while since I flew this enormous beast. I had some other bits and pieces to do first I listed another rake of Southdown bus photo sets on EBay. Then I started with the films which I'm still on with early evening although I need a break, Mandy always says its like flying a Lancaster bomber with all the noise. There were some frustrations as there always are, a very fragile very old LMS film on going to London, very brittle from about 1928/30 ish, still got Thomas Tilling buses. It needs going for proper preservation in a real archive and scanning not projecting. A lovely reel on Yugoslavia circa 1960 shame only 2 sec s on Dubrovnick tram. A lovely film on Netherlands circa 1958 named Tulip Time but even has Amsterdam blue trams. Some late '50s film on Scotland , wartime footage of children growing up in well to do family on Sussex Surrey borders brilliant quality no trace of the war impacting on their life style. The best of the lot other than the LMS film a second of two reels ( oh for the first) an educational film on London's wholesdale markets circa 1949/50's. Some wonderful old lorries in it. The films will go on my Youtube site for information to be added and of course your enjoyment, I'll release them later when there is enough for a subject. Meanwhile most will go back on EBay to fund further aquisitions and I can provide a full synopsis of the films warts and all. If I remember I still have photos of Bradford to bring you from earlier in the week Comments are closed.
