A very productive day filming trucks at Newark on Trent, clear blue sky and warm, four hours captured, that means I have 5 DVDs to make! I'm at the end of the current run through the Bubb family films although still looking for film version with sound to dubb onto scanned versions. Anyway here are some shots at Newark today I'm looking ahead to rallies we'll attend next year, The New Year running day Chester/Wrexham will be a good starter, Detling 1st April and Brooklands two weeks later all in our diary. I saw the Great Dorset is off for 2023 but return 2024, they are giving it a break until the economy settles down as prices have spiralled for large events as the entertainment hospitality sector struggles with labour , materials and prices. It remains to be seen if Buses will resurrect Showbus. I am still very busy getting the downloaded videos of our own and some commercial ones together with the remainder of the Bubb family collection ready to be upgraded to HD in due course. It will be interesting to see what I can rescue, the old BCL Southdown video would be a gem. Shame they vanished with a lot of loaned cine films including the PMT that I would have been on. We are out tonight, a bit of Principles Circle networking from the RNCM, someone can't make an important piano recital in Lymm tonight so we have a couple of free tickets to pick up on the way, its not far from here. I'm going to film trucks at Newark tomorrow then Wednesday I'm at the consultants at the Spire in Macclesfield first thing then filming at Warrington and finally going to Nantwich where I've found a company who will quoter for restoration work on the little Toyota IQ that I rather cherish, only 2k until it has gone around the clock, my first ever from new to do this. Thursday cleaning house and relations staying over a couple of nights which will be pleasant. No news yet on the new BT hub arriving and our land line working again, blessed nuisance it has all been. I picked up my new external drive as we are ploughing through so much material that it is burning up TBs like they were going out of fashion. A few more photos of truck in Ireland, I haven't forgotten I need to edit the St Helens running day from Sunday. Greeting folks, did I forget to blog yesterday, quite possibly. Anyway I'm still working my way through the download films labelling the files and saving as digital then the next move is to get them uprated to HD 60fps. We shall have a pile of fresh material to bring you but for today we were out at St Helens North West Museum of Transport which hosted the Leyland National 50th anniversary running day today. We filmed cab rides on three L Nationals and a Warrington Titan PD as well as the other buses out on the road. Here are some photos Today a blitz on saving dozens of films downloading from old VHS videos to digital and putting them on file ready to be enhanced up the HD standard at 60 fps. They will also be enhanced for the actual image removing any 'noise' . They will all need entering on the PMP Archive database by locations. This will result in a flurry of new releases at some time in the future as we absorb this huge influx of material saved for posterity. There are also early PMP films from the 1980s which have now been digitised, we can see what wonders AI will work on them. The PMP landline is still out of service but should be back on next Wednesday at the latest as we are reverting to BT after the disaster with Talk UK which I would avoid at all costs in future. BT is terrible but they do have the advantage of open access to Open Reach the ones who service all the BT landlines and without that you are reliant on third parties excuses and cannot access Open Reach directly at all. We did a bit of shopping, horrific traffic out there today, Tesco have now huge cardboard photo fold ups which slot into empty shelf areas where there don't have any products and make it seem less empty, M&S are also similar. There is obviously still a huge shortage of many products and M&S have dropped many popular lines plus play pop music in the tannoys which I hate. I wish there was an upmarket store which replaced M&S who have lost the plot. Some Irish lorry shots from last week, trailers for all recent DVDs on Youtube and the channel is picking up views again. A stressful morning dealing with new IT supplier, Talk UK, kicked them into touch even worse than BT but won't go to Trust Pilot until we have switched back to BT as at least you can get Open Reach without going to a sub contractor. They are all plonkers putting it politely and I have made suggestions as to wear they could put their telephones. Really didn't need this in an already stressful environment, hoping phone are back on by next week. This afternoon we had the Polio Fellowship outing to Jodrell Bank, we actually ran out of time eventually. Very interesting and of course Mandy's mother Berta worked for Lovell in Manchester in the war when it was on radar. Here are some shots I took on the visit. New DVDs on the PMP shop now, the phone land line seems to have been out since last week. I've just got a couple more of the Irish DVDs to master then I'm packing it in for tonight. We got all the DVD orders in the post this morning. Nothing outstanding at all.
A quickie as it is now getting late and we have been travelling all day. We were in Ireland because our dear friend Sean Cavanagh had passed away. We stayed with Hil Cavanagh and were also lodged with our friend Jayne. It was a week of friends gathering around and obviously emotionally draining. After leaving and the usual exhortations to take care and stay well Mandy had a nasty tumble from her wheelchair thanks to clumsy unmaintained Luas tram rail near the docks. Mandy was crossing to have a sit by the Liffey while I got some shots in the city. The first three rails were fine the last was either raised or road had lowered, which ever Mandy has a giant lump on her face which is going to match the 'super' moon we saw along the Welsh coast. Anyway other than that we are safe and well. Here are some shots from the rapid Dublin visit, it took 4 hours from Hil's house near Tipperary , unknown hold ups for ages on the usually lightly populated motorways. Just a reminder that we shall be away for a week from tomorrow 4th October returning 11th Oct. This is to attend the funeral of our dear friend Sean and help Hil in the difficult days ahead. Mandy will also get the new bank account in ROI up and running as Ulster Bank ( Nat West) have pulled out of the country. We were going to attend to this sort of stuff in November but events have taken over. Mandy should have been flying out with our friend Sue for a girlie week in the sun tomorrow but again alas events have taken us in another direction. I could well find a little time to get the camera out, the batteries are charged! On a very positive note I've got all the Bubb family videos downloaded and files retitled to reflect the contents, these will be upgraded to HD 60 fps. The only job left on these is putting sound on the scanned cine mostly railways which were shot in sound and I managed to get sound copies done many years back but don't have a S8 projector these day that does sound. Today we have a long list of chores to get through before we depart very early tomorrow via Holyhead to Dublin, then through the Dublin tunnel and out onto the motorways, it is so much easier these days. If I cannot get online don't worry we'll be back next week. We are now on TalkUK for the internet and phones, there was a doubling of our internet speed promised still nothing like cable but fingers crossed for an improvement. Some photos from last years trip to Ireland. See you all again soon. We all met up in the 1970s, they married the same year as Mandy and I 1974. A friendship which has lasted 48 years. It was a relatively short illness with reduced ability to withstand infections after cancer treatment Sean succumbed to double pneumonia and passed away around 12 midday today just a few weeks into his 81st year. Mandy and I have sat and watched through some of our family photos so many with Sean and Hil. We can only pray for Hil for comfort at this time and hope to be able to help in any positive practical ways we can. Thankfully she has many friends around her in Ireland. Rest in peace Sean 1942-2022 lets hope there are horses, dogs, leather and wood a plenty in heaven.
