Today we were at Lymm with the funeral of our friend and Polio Fellowship member of long service Janet Dines, Mandy met her at the British Polio Fellowship AGM in Blackpool and they were instrumental in starting what was then a BPF 'group' this developed into a full blown branch. We had met some of their family at Janet and Ryder's 50th wedding anniversary, the post funeral reception was at the same hotel. Ryder has bravely announced he will come to our regular meeting this Thursday, he is also an active supporter of our branch. The service at Lymm parish church was fairly packed as they were also very active there with Ryder also being a bell ringer, the bells were rung with gusto to day on Janet's memory. Janet met Ryder at the Risley AEA plant, she had contracted polio aged 19 in 1956 and went back to Weston Super Mare for therapy to be near home but she returned to Manchester to finish her maths degree and her career with the nuclear industry in Cheshire settling in Lymm where they remained. A lady of great intellect and of many interests including playing the oboe, working with textiles, she corresponded with a pen pal in German was a long time supporter of the Girl Guide movement and the Church Women's fellowship. She was also a collector and admirer of house plants.
Tomorrow I hope to be filming in Sheffield as planned although I won't start too early as the sun could break through early in the day, the clouds it seems destined to gather as the day goes on, we'll see how true that is. Sheffield also provides our slide show this evening. Wednesday we intend to be filming in Oxford.
